First prepare all of your ingredients so they’re ready as you need them. Dice the onion, greenbellpepper and the garlic.
Lay out the rest of the ingredients so they will be ready to go.
Sauté the onion and the greenpepper until the onion is just turning translucent. Do not cook completely as these will remain in the skillet for another several minutes.
Add in the garlic and sauté for another 1 minute.
Place the tempeh in the skillet and cook for about 2 more minutes.
Sprinkle in the seasonings (chili powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar) and stir until everything is well coated.
Stir in the rest of the ingredients (tomato sauce, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, tamari, dijon mustard).
Cook for 5-10 minutes stirring a few times, until the sauce has thickened to desired consistency. You can add in water if you need, up to 1 cup.
Let cool and serve how you’d like. Can be made into a sandwich, served with mashed potatoes (yum!), made into sliders for an appetizer, or eaten by itself!
